THE INSTAGRAM UPDATE WE DON’T REALLY WANT….

In testing phase at the moment is a change to stories that sees the user having to purposely ‘expand’ stories to watch them (if there’s more than 3).

So if during the day, you put up 6 or 7 stories, talking about different things that have happened over the course of 24 hours, only 3 of those are visible unless the person watching ‘expands’ the stories to view more.

This will make selling on stories a lot more difficult!

Please note that this is still in testing mode! It might not actually roll out (🤞).

So many of you tell me that you’re scared of stepping out of your comfort zone when it comes to getting in front of the camera. I’ve heard it all….

❌Reels freak you out
❌You hate the sound of your voice
❌ You have greys coming through
❌ You haven’t lost the covid kilos
❌ You feel like you need a full face of make up to show up on stories.

blah, blah, blah…..

Today I did something so out of my comfort zone and got in front of the camera, in a REALLY public place, to model for the amazing team @stylemeover. Now some of you might say, ‘yeah but you do videos and show up on social media all the time.’ Correct…I do! And in those circumstances, I’m the one in control. I control the angle of my phone, I control what I’m wearing (and it’s usually always something black)! Today, I relinquished that control.

With the right guidance and the right team behind you, things that seem scary, can become liberating. A huge thanks to @melinabagnato, @stylemeover and @nicolepasphotography…you’re all bloody legends.

For me, modelling was a huge deal. For you, it might be filming reels, and that’s where I can absolutely help you!!

It’s daunting but once you’ve done it, it can be a game changer.

Words to live by….in life and on social media!

🔹Most of us will not show you the whole picture.

🔹Most of us will only show you the 24th picture they took of themselves because they didn’t like the other 23!

🔹Most of us talk only about the highlights and not the lowlights.

We do this because we crave praise. We want people to like us and as a result we post things that we’re proud of…things that we won’t get judged on.

The issue with the world though, is that people will probably judge regardless, so be real. Be you. Be as authentic as you can possibly be and DO NOT EVER compare yourself to others who have a seemingly ‘perfect’ life , because chances are….they don’t!

The aim of our Instagram game is not only to get 👀 on our content. It’s for our audience to fall in love with us every time they see our posts!

Here’s some things you should always be considering when posting loveable content;

❤️ First and foremost, do you actually know who you’re trying to target??? Your audience should be niche…don’t be too broad or you’ll miss the mark entirely!

❤️ Don’t be ‘salesy’ in your approach- like EVER!

❤️ Put yourself into the shoes of your audience! If your post came in the newsfeed, would you actually engage with it?

❤️ Show up!!! We want to see you and learn more about you on your social media pages.

❤️ Provide solutions to your audience’s problems!

The legal age for using Instagram is 13 and the app are doing what they can to ensure users are of legal age. In line with a recent update, it appears Instagram is now starting to ask users to submit their date of birth to use the app (they say it’s to restrict kids…personally I say it’s so ads are better targeted to audiences). 🤨 The DOB will not appear anywhere on your profile BUT if you’re a business page and happen to put in your business opening date or maybe you run an account for your pet and put your pet’s DOB, Instagram will restrict your account until you verify the information is not accurate! 🛑Word of warning….put your actual date of birth! Instagram is cluttered so if you look at what others in your industry do and then copy them, chances are it’s not gonna work!

YOU NEED TO STAND OUT 🙌🏻

Why should people buy from you instead of the other person online who sells what you sell? THIS is what you need to be talking about on social media!

Ways you can stand out include;
❤️ Showing us YOU! Why you started your biz, what you love about it, little things that allow your audience to get to know you etc…
❤️ Showing us how you solve your customer problems.
❤️ Educating your audience on things they might not be aware of when it comes to your product/service or your industry.
❤️ Involving your audience in decision making…so using polls or questions.

I cannot stress how important this is!!

It’s actually got nothing to do with posting every day…you don’t need to post daily!

It comes down to the VALUE you provide!

Oh hi there legend 👋 I’m Maree, owner of The Social Secret and today I’m putting my own advice to good use and reintroducing myself. Building a connection with you is really important to me. I want you to trust me, to know me, to like me. Yes, I appear a LOT on my feed and in my reels, but it’s one thing to show up and another thing to open up. So today, I open up and share a few facts… 1️⃣ I have insulin resistance. My insulin levels are through the roof and as a result, I follow a lazy keto lifestyle these days. As someone of Italian heritage this is hard at times! #pastaislife 2️⃣ I love learning and educating myself on lots of different things to enhance my skills. Would love to do a proper videography course soon. 3️⃣ I’m the eldest of 3 kids (and the only girl). My brothers are both legends. 4️⃣ I ‘over worry’ about everything! Like even things that I shouldn’t worry or care about. Most of the time I hold the worry in and don’t verbalise it, then overthink it and it drives me a bit crazy. I am getting better at this though. 5️⃣ I am excellent at UNO!!! Actually I’m a bit competitive when it comes to any type of card or board game. I hate losing. 6️⃣ If time and money allowed it, I would book in for a massage and facial once a week! It’s one of my favourite things to do. 7️⃣ When I was a little girl I wanted to be a hairdresser SO bad!!!! 8️⃣ Next year I celebrate 20 years of marriage!! We’re planning an overseas holiday (Hawaii I think). 9️⃣ I wish I was Latina (no, not the pasta…the culture). I love the music, the language, the vibe (…and Ricky Martin) 😂 1️⃣0️⃣ I much prefer giving gifts than receiving gifts.
